Issue Position

-First bill signed into law strengthened the state Sunshine Law, by increasing penalties applied to those who intentionally violate open meeting requirements and public access guarantees. Good government advocates had pushed such legislation for twenty-five years.

-Voted for the new open records law that gives taxpayers wider access to records held by state and local governments and provides individuals legal for challenging decisions when requests for records are improperly turned down.

-Supported stricter Senate Rules designed to prevent conflict-of-interest problems and draw a clear line between legislative duties and campaign work.

-Secured passage of a measure requiring extensive disclosure on the use of state aircraft, in response to documented abuses.

-Pushing the state to adopt a system of online voter registration, to increase public participation in elections.
