CORNYN STATEMENT ON SPELLINGS NOMINATION TO BE SECRETARY OF EDUCATION

WASHINGTON-U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-Texas) made the following statement Wednesday regarding President Bush's announcement that he will nominate Margaret Spellings of Texas to succeed Rod Paige as Secretary of Education:
"I am encouraged to learn that the President has chosen Margaret Spellings as his nominee for Secretary of Education. Margaret is someone who I count as a friend and I have enormous respect for her wise and compassionate counsel on a wide number of domestic policy issues.
"As Secretary of Education, I am confident that she will provide the country with a strong and knowledgeable voice on critical education issues as she furthers the No Child Left Behind policy goals over the next four years."
