Wall Street money continues to pour in for Ron Gould in the race for Congressional District 4.
As of this week, Wall Street's investment in Gould hit $700,000, much of it used for negative ads against U.S. Rep. Paul Gosar.
This is an unprecedented amount of money spent by the Wall Street backed group Club for Growth in an Arizona Congressional District. For example, Club for Growth only spent $153,282.61 in 2010 to support David Schweikert against Democratic incumbent Harry Mitchell.
"In my fifteen years in politics I have never seen such an egregious attempt to try and subvert an election," stated Tony Bradley, Campaign Manager for Paul Gosar. "I would be shocked if any of Ron Gould's special interest backers could even find CD4 on a map, let alone care about the issues important to its voters. All the Club for Growth cares about is buying Ron Gould's vote with lies and distortions."
As of the latest Federal Elections Commission filings, the Wall Street-backed Club for Growth spent about $570,000 on advertising against Gosar. The Club bundled another $130,000 in donations for Gould.
According to Federal Election Commission reports, Gould has raised money from only 37 Arizona citizens.
"Voters must send a message that rural Arizona cannot be bought by Wall Street," Gosar said. "Wall Street Ron cannot be trusted to have your interest when East Coast bankers have invested so much in him."
