Van Hollen Announces $3.8 Million to Expand Maryland's Weatherization Program

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen released the following statement applauding the Department of Energy's announcement that Maryland has been selected to receive $3.8 million in additional funding to continue the State's success and innovation under the Weatherization Assistance Program:

"The weatherization program is a win-win for Maryland families and our economy. By making homes more energy efficient, families save money on ever-increasing costs to heat and cool their homes. By hiring local contractors to do the work, we allow small businesses to expand and create jobs -- the Recovery Act Weatherization Assistance Program has supported about 275 jobs in our State in the second quarter of 2010 alone. Maryland has already weatherized nearly 1,600 homes under the Recovery Act, and this summer more than 80,000 homes will be weatherized across the country.
"In keeping with Maryland's consistent commitment to protecting the environment, the Recovery Act's weatherization program has been a huge success in our State -- the decision by the Department of Energy to expand the program and provide the State with $3.8 million dollars is a testament to that fact. It will save money and create jobs as we put our economy on the road to recovery."
