Statement on CARE Iraq Director Margaret Hassan's Death
Wednesday, November 17, 2004
"Margaret Hassan dedicated her life to providing humanitarian assistance to the people of Iraq - her adopted home. For thirty years her selfless commitment improved lives, saved lives and gave hope during the darkest of days.
Margaret's kidnapping and murder was a senseless crime by brutal individuals. This is a tragedy for Margaret's family, her CARE colleagues, the Iraqi people and all people in the world who strive to elevate the human spirit.
I had the good fortune to have briefly encountered Margaret in her role as CARE director. Her courage was undeniable and her lifetime commitment to her fellow man will live on in those who work for peace and human dignity.
May God bless Margaret and all those who love her."
