Issue Position: Advocating Responsible Health Care Reform

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

House Democrats and President Obama have passed into law a 2,000-page monstrosity of a government healthcare takeover law, driving up our already out-of-control federal spending by $1.3 trillion, and adding $729 billion in new taxes.

My number one goal for healthcare reform is to repeal this law. If President Obama vetoes our repeal, my next target will be to block all funding and regulations used to enact the law. I will simultaneously continue my efforts as House Republican Conference Secretary to support our 21 state attorney generals who have an excellent chance of having this scheme ruled unconstitutional.

Once this terrible law is overturned, I will work to enact fiscally and constitutionally responsible healthcare solutions, such as creating high-risk pools to guarantee access to affordable health insurance regardless of pre-existing health conditions; allowing small businesses to pool together to purchase health care at the same rates as major corporations; and reining in junk lawsuits that are driving up health premiums.
