Pocan Statement on Supreme Court Affordable Care Act Ruling

State Representative Mark Pocan released the following statement upon the Supreme Court decision upholding the Affordable Care Act. Already, millions of Wisconsin residents have received better health care because of this act, not only through saving costs, but in improved physical well-being and peace of mind for their loved ones. From seniors, young adults, women, and those with pre-existing conditions -- to all of us who shouldered a heavier burden due to the current system -- millions in our state and nation have benefited.

"As a progressive, I see the Affordable Care as a critical first step toward universal health care coverage. In the Wisconsin Assembly, I helped guarantee coverage to 98 percent of our residents as well as all of our children. On the Joint Finance Committee, I fought to implement that coverage along with SeniorCare, Wisconsin healthcare programs that the Affordable Care Act bolsters.

"In Congress I will continue to work to expand health care. I look forward to the day when every man, woman, and child receives health care as a right, not a privilege."
