Young Says Selection of Ryan Will Refocus Presidential Race on important Issues

Statement

Date: Aug. 11, 2012

Rep. Todd Young (R-IN9) released the following statement after Mitt Romney selected Rep. Paul Ryan as his Vice Presidential running mate. As a member of the House Budget Committee, Young has worked closely with Ryan, who chairs the committee, during his first term in office. Young's statement is as follows:

"At a time when unemployment remains above 8%, our national debt nears $16 trillion, and political debate threatens to stall recovery, America needs leaders willing to put pen to paper and outline a clear path forward for our country. Paul Ryan--with whom I've worked on the Budget Committee to draft such a bold, comprehensive and coherent vision for America's future--is exactly that sort of leader."

At a time when the Presidential campaign seems headed for the politics of personal destruction, this addition to the Republican ticket should help refocus the race on the important issues that all Americans must collectively address. I can say first hand that Mitt Romney has chosen a running mate who is brilliant, thoughtful and articulate when it comes to the greatest challenges facing our country. This is a choice that is sure to energize those voters who want to see a plan of action--not merely empty rhetoric or hollow speeches--to get our private sector economy rolling again. Criticizing the other guy's plan can never substitute for having a plan of your own, and the selection of Paul Ryan shows that Mitt Romney is serious about charting a course to prosperity."--Rep. Todd Young (R-IN9)
