'Abraham dedicated himself to enhancing America's global competitiveness and leadership in the wise use of our energy resources'

WASHINGTON-U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, made the following statement Monday regarding Secretary of Energy Spencer Abraham:

"As Secretary of Energy, Spencer Abraham dedicated himself to enhancing America's global competitiveness and leadership in the wise use of our energy resources, and I thank him for his service.

"I strongly believe that we need a comprehensive national energy policy that encourages innovation and increases productivity, decreases reliance on foreign sources, and protects our national security. I remain hopeful that we can pass such legislation in the new Congress.

"The energy industry creates jobs and it improves our quality of life; it is as a key component of growth in our economy and our prosperity. Energy issues are particularly critical to Texas, and we must continue to find energy solutions that benefit all Americans."
