Kaine Speaks with Richmond Educators About "Investing in Our Workers" Agenda

This afternoon, former governor and current U.S. Senate candidate Tim Kaine met with Richmond area educators to discuss "Investing in our Workers" - a policy agenda released today that builds on Kaine's commitment to win the global talent race. During the conversation at J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College, Kaine shared his strategies to develop the world's most skilled workforce that include raising standards for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) curriculum, career and technical education, and workforce training.

"In Virginia, we made a commitment to develop and attract talent and our economy surged ahead," said Kaine. "If we're looking for ways to strengthen our national economy we should learn some lessons from Virginia. In order to have the economic future we want, we have to recommit to being the most skilled economy in the world."

Kaine also spoke about "Educators for Kaine," a group of more than 140 education professionals who support Kaine in his bid for U.S. Senate. Launched today, the diverse group of educators will discuss Kaine's proposals and record with members of their community and friends and family between now and election day.
As governor, Kaine made significant investments in career and technical education, and workforce training. While he was governor, he developed nine career and technical academies and opened five one-stop workforce development centers across the state.

"Career and technical education offers great job opportunities, many of which are in high demand fields that can't be outsourced," said Kaine. "We have to make sure our students and workers know about these opportunities, and that the curriculum prepares them to fill these open positions."
Since the year began, Kaine has hosted more than 65 economic roundtable discussions across the state to hear from Virginians and share his approach to creating jobs.
