Congressman Thompson Works To Save Delta Jobs: Country Select And Wal-Mart To Partner

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) announced that Country Select (Isola) and Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., have reached an agreement to promote Mississippi farm-raised catfish in Supercenter stores. Congressman Thompson released the following statement:

"The catfish industry is vital to the Mississippi economy and Mississippi is the catfish capitol of the world. Mississippi processes roughly 500 million pounds of catfish annually. As the need for new markets arose, we came together to figure out a new approach to solve this problem. Thankfully, Wal-Mart continues to support 100% Made in the USA catfish and is adding two new Mississippi suppliers to these efforts. This is a good example of what teamwork can do. Bringing together a great product - Mississippi catfish, great workers from Country Select-and Wal-Mart customers who deserve a quality product.

"The more important story is that hundreds of jobs are being saved. The families of workers in Humphreys County and the surrounding area are the real winners in this. I am excited about the opportunity and look forward to further assisting our agricultural producers and processors."
