Congressman Thompson
Calls For Enhanced Funding

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, United States Representative Bennie G. Thompson (D-MS) released the following statement in response to the U.S. Supreme Court's decision not to hear an appeal in the Ayers case:

"With the Supreme Court's denial of the plaintiff's motion, the Ayers Case litigation is complete. The $503 million provided is a floor, not a ceiling, for what these HBCUs need. I call upon all Members of the Mississippi State Legislature to support enhanced funding beyond this settlement amount for Alcorn State University, Jackson State University and Mississippi Valley State University.

"I look forward to working with each of these institutions, making sure that the ugly arm of segregation never shows up in higher education ever again."
