Expedited Approval for Extraction of Strategic Minerals Supported By Hochul

Today, as part of her Make It In America agenda, Representative Kathy Hochul (NY-26) voted in favor of bipartisan legislation to expedite the development of America's strategic and critical minerals.

"Currently the United States is 100 percent dependent on foreign countries such as China for rare earth minerals necessary for high-tech manufacturing. Today, I was proud to vote in favor of legislation that will streamline the permitting process for mineral development projects here at home. Not only will this bill allow us to develop the raw materials we need to compete and succeed, but it will also bring jobs back to the United States," said Rep. Hochul.

In a 2012 ranking of 25 major mining countries, the U.S. ranked last place in permitting for mineral exploration, with an average of 7 to 10 years for a project to be approved. The National Strategic and Critical Minerals Production Act of 2012 modernizes this permitting process, helping businesses expedite the development of minerals manufacturers need in the United States.
