John Edwards Showed Strength to Lead Our Country

WASHINGTON Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today released the following statement in response to last night's vice presidential debate.

"John Edwards laid out a new direction for our country in the vice presidential debate, one that does not put a squeeze on America's middle class, but builds on the dreams of all Americans and provides a straightforward plan to win the peace in Iraq.

"As we saw last night, this Administration is incapable of fixing Iraq because they refuse to see the mess they have created there. The same can be said of the American economy, which under their watch has included record unemployment and a rising deficit.

"Last night's debate was not about who had the best ability to debate, but who demonstrated the best ability to lead our country. John Edwards has the strength and conviction to lead our country in a new direction and to fight for the middle class.
