Kerry Clear Winner of First Presidential Debate
Friday, October 01, 2004
WASHINGTON : Congresswoman Rosa L. DeLauro (Conn.-3) today released the following statement following last night's first presidential debate.
"John Kerry emerged as the clear winner of the first presidential debate.
"Last night the American people saw a distinct choice in the direction our country can take-one with a new leader who has the strength, conviction and steady command of the facts, the other with an existing leader who is blind to reality.
"President Bush's foreign policy agenda is not what the Administration says it is. The President cannot solve the problems in Iraq because he continues to hide from the reality of the Iraq war-that the invasion and occupation of Iraq have been far more costly and far more deadly than this Administration insisted.
"John Kerry offered hope for a fresh start in Iraq so we can finish the job. He has a plan to unite our country and rebuild our alliances by securing international support, training Iraqi security forces, and implementing a coherent reconstruction plan that benefits the Iraqi people. Senator Kerry has specific plans. President Bush has shallow promises.
"Last night the American people not only saw a clear winner in the presidential debate, they saw their next president in Senator John Kerry."
