Press Conference by Jason Plummer on Cap and Trade Legislation

Jason Plummer, Republican Nominee for Illinois' 12th Congressional District, was joined by Congressman Steve Scalise (R-LA) and Congressman John Shimkus (R-IL) for a press conference outside the Phillips 66 Refinery in South Roxana on July 13.
At the press conference, Plummer denounced his opponent's unwillingness to stand up against the Cap and Trade legislation that would further damage the Southern Illinois economy.
"Southern Illinoisians know how catastrophic Cap and Trade would be for the region. It's stunning to see that my opponent refuses to take a position on this issue," Plummer said. "How can he claim to be serious about creating jobs when he will not take a stand against legislation that would shut down more coal mines and cost Southern Illinoisians thousands of jobs?"
"I'm going to Washington to roll back the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and its needless regulations that kill jobs and increase our dependency on foreign oil," Plummer added.
Congressmen Shimkus and Scalise added that regulations from Washington continue to cost Americans quality jobs.
"We defeated cap and trade in Congress once already, yet the Obama EPA is regulating greenhouse gases," Congressman Shimkus said. "We need more voices, like Jason's, saying no to EPA and yes to North American energy resources."
"We need to develop a long-term energy plan that finally utilizes the natural resources that America is blessed with," Scalise said. "I look forward to working with Jason in the future to establish a true all-of-the-above strategy that gets Americans back to work, reduces our dependence on Middle Eastern oil, and ensures America's long-term energy security."
Both Congressmen currently serve on the Energy and Commerce Committee. Congressman Scalise is a member of the Energy and Power Subcommittee, while Congressman Shimkus is Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy and the Environment, and also serves on the Energy and Power Subcommittee.
