Rep. Young Statement on President Obama's Income Tax Hike Proposal

Statement

Rep. Todd Young (R-IN9) released the following statement after President Obama proposed raising taxes on individuals and small businesses with more than $250,000 in annual income:

"In 2010, President Obama worked with Congressional Republicans to extend tax cuts for all income brackets because he said it was "the right thing to do' for jobs in the midst of a lagging economy.

"In 2011, he wanted to reform our tax code to eliminate loopholes, deductions and credits--an idea Congressional Republicans have embraced to truly make the tax code simpler and fairer. I remain committed to working with the President on this sort of comprehensive reform that would allow us to keep rates low in a stagnant economy.

"The economic picture has not changed much in two years. Perhaps that's why the president has dropped the bipartisanship and changed his argument just a few months before election day: By changing the topic he is hoping to avoid talking about jobs and the economy."
