N.J. Gov. Chris Christie Endorses Block-Granting Plan Similar to Rokita's Medicaid Reform Bill

In an appearance on CNBC's Squawk Box this morning, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie expressed support for a policy of block-granting federal Medicaid dollars to states and allowing states to tailor programs to serve their unique populations.

In March, U.S. Rep. Todd Rokita (IN-4) introduced the State Health Flexibility Act, which would implement this idea by capping Medicaid at current spending levels and combining Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) into a single block grant to be given to each state to administer.

"The president should block grant this Medicaid money to each state, let each state make its judgment. What works in New Jersey…is very different, I suspect, than what would work in Montana. And so let's stop pretending there could be a one-size-fits-all for this problem," Christie said.
