"Mike Turner protects Wright-Patterson Air Force Base"
Prior to Congressman Turner's election there was no representative for Wright-Patterson Air Force Base on the House Armed Services Committee (HASC). Turner filled that void. Now he serves as a senior member of this committee as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Strategic Forces. This subcommittee oversees many of the missions whose work takes place at the base, including the National Air and Space Intelligence Center and the Air Force Research Lab. As the top employer in the Congressional District, and the largest single site employer in Ohio, Wright-Patterson is one of the most important drivers to the local economy, and Turner has been it's chief advocate in Congress.
Congressman Turner continues to work with local and national leaders to help plan how to help further Wright Patterson Air Force Base as the leading research and development base in the world. During the 112th Congress, Turner authored language in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which would fast track hiring at the Air Force Research Lab. This means jobs are filled faster, putting Ohioans to work faster. In additional, he has worked to ensure civilians may attend the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT), and has included language in the NDAA that will ensure AFIT's top leadership remains strong. Finally, Turner has been looking to the future of Wright-Patterson and the missions it engages in. He has worked to expand the areas available for Unmanned Aerial Systems testing, in both the Federal Aviation Administration Reauthorization Act, and the NDAA. Ohio was the birthplace of manned flight and is set to become home to the future of unmanned flight.
