Our taxes are high because of the burdens we have placed upon ourselves through the years of trying to be the good guy. Oh yes, many a legislator wants to do good for the people of Hawaii, I have no doubt, but in doing so, they take on certain responsibilities and costs that become counter productive. For example, the rising cost to the state of retiree benefits along is astounding.

The responsibility of welfare also come into play. After all, if you were to give a dollar to the homeless, they gain a dollar. But if the government takes a dollar from you to give to the homeless, the homeless ends up with 10 cents! And you're out a buck!

Households all over Hawaii are working hard to prevent family and friends from being homeless by pulling together … so why is the government making this so expensive? The irony … because they want to help.

Government is NOT the answer, and people truly need not look to the government for answers . There is a need to look to family, friends, churches, private institutions, because there is help out there. And there could be more when government gets out of the way! Again, I say, let me give the homeless a dollar instead of the government taking it from me to give them 10 cents.
