I am unsure what benefits the gay are seeking that we could not address in the Reciprocal Benefits Law. If they are looking for federal rights, they can take their argument to congress.

Here is my concern -- households all over Hawaii are made of various unions. Grandparents, parents, children, grandchildren, aunties, uncles, cousins and friends … Can the reciprocal law benefit these unions as well? Hopefully. BUT, and here is the but, what then is the definition of a civil union? Two men living in an apartment who are not gay. Any "step" relation? A person and their pet? Will we now need a constitutional amendment precisely defining a civil union? This is the slippery slope we do not want to head down.

My position is simple:

I am just a Family Man with Family Values. I oppose Civil Unions and Same-Sex Marriage.
