Mark Takano Statement on Civil Rights Act Anniversary

Mark Takano, candidate for Congress in the 41st District of California, released the following statement today:

"Forty-eight years ago today the United States enacted the Civil Rights Act of 1964, one of two key pieces of legislation designed to move our nation beyond the history of discrimination that had plagued America since its founding. The Civil Rights Act was remarkable because it represented a moment when people across our nation stood up to say that we would no longer call right that which was clearly wrong, and that all Americans deserve equal treatment under the law, regardless of their gender or the color of their skin.

Our Declaration of Independence asserts that "all men are created equal," and throughout our nation's history those words have been a challenge to every generation to stamp out inequality and discrimination wherever we might find it. Though that work isn't finished, we have made major strides forward. We must continue to work in the spirit of the Civil Rights Act, to ensure that the right of any American to receive an education, to earn a living, to cast a ballot or to have their voice heard is never again abridged."
