Pelosi: Bush Administration Not Only Sponsors Traffic Reports, It Worsens Traffic Congestion

Washington, D.C.-House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today in reaction to news reports that the Bush-Cheney campaign is sponsoring traffic reports in battleground states:

"The traffic reports might be sponsored by the Bush-Cheney campaign, but the traffic that American families are stuck in was brought to you by the Bush Administration and Republicans in Congress. Their failure to pass a robust highway bill that makes a real investment in America's roads has delayed $2.1 billion in highway improvements and lost an opportunity to create millions of jobs.

"According to a recent report by the Texas Transportation Institute, Americans waste more than $63 billion and 5.6 billion gallons of gas sitting in traffic every year. But Republican infighting has meant no highway and mass transit improvements, and more traffic congestion.

"Democrats have a better way. That's why we are fighting for additional investments in improving our roads and highways-funding that would create an additional 1.7 million jobs nationwide and ease congestion on our roads."
