Washington, D.C. - Today U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) praised the United States Trade Representative for his decision to withdraw the U.S. from a 1992 aerospace agreement with Europe and to file a dispute settlement case at the World Trade Organization against the European Union.
"For years Airbus has operated on fiscal steroids. Today the U.S. Trade Representative said, 'No more subsidies.'
"Today's announcement sends a strong message to our workers: We will not sit on our hands and watch your jobs disappear while Europe unfairly inflates Airbus. We will fight to give you the level playing field that you deserve.
"When we make our case to the World Trade Organization, I am confident that Airbus will finally have to pay the piper for all the unfair freebies it has received over the years.
"I will continue my efforts in Congress to support Boeing and the good-paying jobs the company provides to my constituents."
