Pelosi: Bush Administration Job Loss is No Myth

Washington, D.C. - House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement today in response to comments in Ohio this week by Treasury Secretary John Snow that the failed Bush jobs record is a "myth":

"Once again, the Bush Administration is in denial, trying to avoid the hard truth that President Bush is the first President to lose jobs on his watch in more than 70 years, since Herbert Hoover during the Great Depression.

"In the last four years, we have lost 1.6 million private-sector jobs, wages have not kept pace with inflation, and the number of jobs created has not even kept pace with the number of people entering the workforce. Yet the President and his economic team continue to spin rosy scenarios that show they are out of touch with reality and are incapable of solving the problems of middle class Americans.

"Americans deserve real leadership. Democrats have a plan to create millions of new jobs, reform the tax code to reward companies for creating jobs in America, and enact middle class tax relief to grow the economy."
