Plummer Calls for Opponent to Attend 12 Debates Prior to the Election

Jason Plummer, Republican nominee for Illinois' 12th Congressional District, has requested that his Democrat opponent participate in 12 debates prior to the Nov. 6 election. Plummer's proposal would allow for one debate in each of the district's 12 counties.

"The 2012 election is crucial for the residents of the 12th district," Plummer said. "With a high unemployment rate, an expanding federal deficit, and the size and scope of the government continually increasing, it's important for the residents of the District to understand where the congressional candidates stand on the issues."

"Since my opponent was neither chosen nor vetted by the District's voters, they deserve the opportunity to find out where he stands on the issues," Plummer added. "I called for a series of debates with my previous opponent, and I will extend the offer to my current one. These times call for, and the voters of the district demand, serious people discussing serious solutions for the serious issues we are currently facing. I hope my opponent takes the opportunity to participate in a robust discussion."

The 12th Congressional District, which covers the southwestern portion of Illinois, stretches from Alton to Cairo and goes as far east as to cover Mount Vernon, West Frankfort and Marion.

"This district has a history of important and civil debates in politically-charged environments," Plummer said. "Two of the Lincoln-Douglas debates were held within the district in Alton and Jonesboro, and I want to bring the issues of the day to the citizens of the district."
