Issue Position: Taxes and Spending

Issue Position

Date: Jan. 1, 2012

Tax money is collected in order for the state to provide necessary services. Therefore, a determination of what qualifies as "necessary" is always required and evolving. Our government has lost sight of the golden rule of government finance: do not let expenses exceed revenue.

Ed believes a total assessment of North Carolina's financial system should be mandated and conservative solutions should be adopted. North Carolina is currently required by law to adopt a balanced budget and he believes this should be achieved by eliminating wasteful spending, not by raising taxes.

Ed will fight to oppose any increase in taxes and reduce wasteful spending. He will work to fix the budgetary problems of the current administration and return our government to one of accountability and fiscal responsibility.
