Today, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer announced that L-3 Global Communications Systems in Victor, NY has received a Department of Defense (DOD) contract award totaling $500,000,000 for a Satellite Data Network Family of Terminals (SDN-FOT). Specifically, these terminals will provide automatic satellite tracking and interface on the DOD's common network. These state of the art terminals provide high speed data connectivity to forward deployed troops and will be designed and manufactured at L-3 GCS' facility in Victor.
"This contract means greater production for DOD, and an economic shot in the arm for L-3 Global Communications Systems, its workers and Ontario County where these terminals are made," said Senator Schumer. "This award only confirms that L-3 GCS continues to be a first-class firm doing great work in New York."
Founded in Victor, NY in 1995 as Global Communications Systems (GCS), the company was acquired in 2005 by L-3 Communications Holdings, one of the largest defense companies in the nation. L-3 GCS currently employs 145 workers in engineering, manufacturing, and management at its 80,000 square foot Victor facility. The company has nearly tripled in size since being acquired by L-3. This contract announced today will support the existing workforce for many years to come and promises to create new engineering, manufacturing and management opportunities in the future.
L-3 is a prime contractor in Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (C3ISR) systems, aircraft modernization and maintenance, and government services. L-3 is also a leading provider of a broad range of electronic systems used on military and commercial platforms. Customers include the U.S. Department of Defense and its prime contractors, U.S. Government intelligence agencies, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Justice, allied foreign governments, domestic and foreign commercial customers and select other U.S. federal, state and local government agencies.
