[WASHINGTON, DC] - U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin made the following statement today in response to President's Bush's remarks on Global AIDS:
"In the 91 days since the President announced his Global AIDS Emergency plan, 747,929 people have died of AIDS related causes worldwide and another 1,246,575 people have become newly infected with the HIV virus. It is imperative that we move beyond politics and act quickly to provide a comprehensive response to the AIDS epidemic, including funding the Global Fund.
"I commend the President for renewing his support for the ABC approach to fight AIDS. I hope Congress will take his words to heart, continue on the path of compromise paved by Congressman Henry Hyde in the House and take real steps toward saving lives."
