Democratic Senate Candidate Tim Kaine is making a push for party volunteers to register voters in Charlottesville.

Kaine gave those volunteers a pep talk on the downtown mall on Sunday. He says grassroots supporters - like them - are the heart of the Democratic races for Senate, Congress, and White House. Kaine and volunteers hope they can make a difference through getting new voters registered.

"In a state that's going to be as close as Virginia, is where everybody is looking at it, as a battle ground. And the outcome is likely going to be very close," said Kaine.

Maggie Thornton, a volunteer, said, "There are still a lot of folks we need to get registered to make sure that they are ready to get out and vote for the president come November."
