Santo Domingo Pueblo Endorses Martin Heinrich for U.S. Senate

Today, the Santo Domingo Pueblo joined a growing list of New Mexico tribes, pueblos, and nations endorsing U.S. Senate candidate Martin Heinrich.

In a letter announcing their endorsement, Santo Domingo Pueblo Governor Sisto Quintana expressed confidence that Heinrich is "the best candidate to continue the excellent work and legacy of Senator Bingaman."

Governor Quintana stated "the tribe is very much aware" of Heinrich's "active support and advocacy" in Congress for legislation that impacts the 3,100 residents of Santo Domingo Pueblo. Among these issues, Heinrich's work on health care, housing, and education has been especially critical.

Heinrich was instrumental in passing the Indian Health Care Improvement Act and is currently spearheading the Helping to Expedite and Advance Responsible Tribal Homeownership Act (HEARTH Act), a bill to remove bureaucratic red-tape between Native American families and homeownership.

"In New Mexico, the issues faced by our tribes, pueblos, and nations should be at the forefront of any United States Senator's agenda," said Heinrich. "In the Senate, I hope to build on the work I began in the House on behalf of Indian Country. I am extremely grateful to Governor Quintana and the Santo Domingo people for their endorsement."

Since announcing his candidacy, Heinrich's endorsements include the Pueblo of Laguna, Pueblo of Isleta, Mescalero Apache Tribe, Jicarilla Apache Nation, Taos Pueblo, Pueblo of Pojoaque, Eastern Navajo Agency Council, Shiprock Chapter of the Navajo Nation, and former President of the National Congress of American Indians Joe A. Garcia.
