Few issues impact our lives in so many ways as access to the use of affordable and reliable energy sources. To be quite blunt, Washington has never had a national energy plan. Currently foreign imported oil accounts for the bulk load of our trade deficit. Yet, we have right here at home an abundance of our own energy. To make the transition to an energy independent economy we must commit to a three-tiered approach.

America must strive to maximize the utilization of Efficiency methods and technologies already available to us and in every way possible. This includes: improving electricity generation and transmission, transportation, appliances, industrial manufacturing, and building design. We must encourage adaptation of 21st century technologies, which will help us achieve overall savings on the long term. Our country has always been powered by ingenuity and there is no reason we should not be running as efficient as possible.

Our national energy security will require use to utilize a diverse portfolio of Homegrown Natural Resources. With modern and every changing technology, we have the ability to utilize all domestic energy sources with sound environmental stewardship. These traditional and emerging sources are more than sufficient to meet America's energy demands while the energy sources of the future are being developed for reliability and affordability.

The final part of this equation is Energy Research. America is known for innovation and discovery. Our search for future energy sources must be resolute. We must avoid adopting inefficient alternatives that require government subsidies to be commercially viable. This only serves to discourage the innovation that holds our future's real energy solutions.
