Issue Position

Our Country currently faces a debt of more than $14 Trillion with little to no leadership coming from the President. I traveled to the Whitehouse to participate in deficit reduction talks. During the meeting President Obama bluntly stated that he did not have a plan to address Americas looming fiscal crisis -- or would put a plan forward. Sadly, it appears that the politics of the 2012 Presidential election are taking precedent over what is best for our country.

From coast to coast, Americans have demanded real solutions that will move our country to a balanced budget. We must ensure that our children and grandchildren do not inherit a legacy of debt. We all want to leave the future generations with better opportunity than we had. To make sure this is a reality, fiscal sanity must be restored. This effort will take discipline and sacrifice on the part of every American.

The House of Representatives sent the President a clear answer on June 1, 2011, when I voted along with a majority of my colleagues to oppose the President's reckless request to raise the debt limit without any agreement to reign in the out of control spending he has presided over since coming to office.
I take my constitutional responsibility to protect our nation and assure our collective security very seriously.
