Recent Revelations in "Operation Fast & Furious" Investigation

Press Conference

Date: June 5, 2012

"In recent years more than 50,000 Mexican citizens have been killed in their country as a result of the drug cartel violence, unfortunately contributed to by a botched operation known as "Fast and Furious" that Attorney General Eric Holder continues to deny he knew about.

"Earlier today, Congressman Darrell Issa revealed that in fact there were wiretap applications which indicated a high degree of knowledge at the top levels of the Justice Department of exactly the tactics used in this operation which resulted in the death of Brian Terry, a U.S. law enforcement agent, and perhaps other Americans, as well.

"It is past time for the Attorney General to come clean on this and to hold those responsible for this operation accountable. The President has said the Attorney General has his complete confidence, but it's beginning to be abundantly clear that he may be the last person in Washington, D.C. that has confidence in this Attorney General.

"Next week he appears before the Senate Judiciary Committee and has another opportunity to come clean and tell what he knows and when he knew it, rather than continue to mislead the United States Congress in discharging our responsibilities for oversight."
