Congresswoman Laura Richardson Announces Grant Award of $25 Million for 40 Clean Natural Gas Buses

Congresswoman Laura Richardson is pleased to announce the release of funds for a clean natural gas bus replacement project. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority was recently awarded $25 million from the competitive State of Good Repair Initiative, which is implemented by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA).

The grant provides for the replacement of forty Los Angeles County buses that are beyond their useful lives. The new handicapped-accessible buses will run on clean natural gas for 12 years or 500,000 miles. This project will directly benefit the families and citizens of the 37th Congressional District, as well as surrounding communities.

"Millions of Americans depend on the bus system every day, and I am excited to see the Los Angeles County bus system become more reliable, cost- and fuel-efficient, and environmentally friendly," said Congresswoman Richardson. She added, "As a member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, I have long promoted technology that reduces harmful emissions and moves our country toward a next-generation transit system. This project is a smart investment, and I thank the FTA for releasing the funds for this grant."
