Congresswoman Laura Richardson released the following statement commemorating Small Business Week, which runs from May 20 -- 26:
"In recognition of all that small businesses do for our communities, from providing conveniently located goods and services to sponsoring local events and organizations, I am asking the residents of the 37th Congressional District to join me in thanking them for all they do and to patronize the diverse businesses in our community," said Congresswoman Laura Richardson.
There are 28.6 million small businesses in the U.S. and small businesses create two out of every three jobs in the country. In the state of California small businesses employ more than 50 percent of the state's 16 million workers. The statistics are clear, small businesses are the key to economic recovery and continued growth.
"For the past several years, I have worked with the Administration and my Congressional colleagues to strengthen America's small businesses and entrepreneurs by passing important legislation, including the Small Business Act and Affordable Health Care Act which have done a great deal to relieve small businesses from burdens that limit their growth," said Congresswoman Richardson.
"In my district, where unemployment is still very high in some areas, much of our future economic growth will result directly from small businesses. They are the engine that drives the American economy and when they are able grow to their full potential, we as a community, a state and a nation prosper," said Congresswoman Richardson.
