Plummer Calls for Politicians, Bureaucrats to End Assault on Southern Illinois Workers

Following the recent issuance of pink slips to workers at Department of Corrections facilities in Southern Illinois, 12th Congressional District Candidate Jason Plummer calls for Illinois' career politicians and bureaucrats to quit playing political games with the Southern Illinois workforce.

Workers at the Tamms Correctional Center, Carbondale's Adult Transitional Center, and Illinois Youth Center in Murphysboro received layoff notices this week as Governor Quinn appears to be following his facility closure timeline while disregarding the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability's opinion.

"These layoff notices show a clear lack of long-term thought by the career politicians and bureaucrats that continue to assault the workers of Southern Illinois," Plummer said. "It's time Governor Quinn and his Democrat allies show serious leadership that provides a long-term solution to our fiscal crisis. The state leaders cannot hold its workers hostage with their political games and fiscal incompetence.

Plummer added that as congressman, he would work with federal, state and local officials to support public policy that would grow the economy, create quality jobs throughout Southern Illinois, and keep the local facilities open and viable.

"Tamms and the Youth Center provide viability to the Department of Corrections, safety for the IDOC personnel, and economic stability to the region," Plummer said. "The closure of these facilities would have a devastating impact on Southern Illinois and our prison system, and I will do my part to ensure the long-term operation of these institutions."
