Cornyn Applauds House Passage of New F-16 Sales to Taiwan

Statement

U.S. Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, issued the following statement after the House approved the Defense Authorization bill with a provision that mandates the Obama Administration sell at least 66 new F-16 C/D fighter aircraft to Taiwan:

"Today's result is encouraging, as this bill sends a message to nations around the world that America will not abandon our friends or our principles in the face of Chinese intimidation.

"I look forward to continuing to work hand-in-hand with the Administration and the Taiwanese government as we move forward in this joint effort to ensure Taiwan has the new American-made fighter jets it needs to defend itself."

The House-passed provision, authored by U.S. Rep. Kay Granger (R-TX), is based on legislation authored by Sen. Cornyn in the Senate.

Senator Cornyn serves on the Finance, Judiciary, Armed Services and Budget Committees. He serves as the top Republican on the Judiciary Committee's Immigration, Refugees and Border Security subcommittee. He served previously as Texas Attorney General, Texas Supreme Court Justice, and Bexar County District Judge.
