Capito Responds to Latest Jobs Numbers Released by Department of Labor

Statement

"Today's jobs numbers reinforce the urgency for Democrats and Republicans to work together to foster a positive environment for job growth, free of the threat of more regulations and higher taxes.

"I hear from constituents daily who are struggling to make ends meet. Food costs are rising, healthcare costs are increasing and with Memorial Day around the corner, West Virginians tell me they're worried about gas prices spiking again this summer.

"West Virginia small business owners are weighed down by economic uncertainty driven by the President's failed policies. Although I'm pleased to see more Americans are finding jobs, unemployment has remained above 8% for over 35 consecutive months. In fact, this is the weakest recovery on record.

"I urge my colleagues on both sides of the aisle and on both sides of the Capitol to seek out common-sense ways we can get this economy going again. Neither party is ever going to be 100% happy, but the American people deserve for us to work together to get unemployment well below current levels."
