Congresswoman Sánchez has proven her dedication to advancing women's rights. She is fighting to ensure that every American woman receives equal treatment in the workplace and in school. Congresswoman Sánchez is also advocating for policies that protect women's health, and working to get more women and girls involved in their communities. Preventing Breast Cancer - Congresswoman Sánchez wants women to have the best chance to prevent breast cancer and believes that research and early detection is vital to fighting this terrible disease. To help, Congresswoman Sánchez is a sponsor of the "Annie Fox Act," (H.R. 987) which provides funding for programs at the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences to reduce breast cancer in younger women. As your representative in Washington, Congresswoman Sánchez is making sure critical programs to fight breast cancer get the vital funding they need.

Promoting Healthy Women - Congresswoman Sánchez is deeply concerned that heart disease, stroke, and other cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death among females in the United States, killing more than 500,000 women each year. Congresswoman Sánchez is an original co-sponsor of the "WISEWOMEN Expansion Act," (H.R. 3086) a bill that provides supplemental grants for preventive health services such as cholesterol and blood pressure screening. This not only helps at-risk women improve their health, but also helps reduce health care costs.

Cancer Awareness Fair - Each year Congresswoman Sánchez hosts a Cancer Awareness Fair in the 39thdistrict. The fair includes professional medical personnel who provide preventive health care advice and give free breast and ovarian cancer screenings to every woman in attendance.

Ending Gender-Based Discrimination - Women in America continue to suffer the impacts of sexism and discrimination based on gender. Congresswoman Sánchez believes it is time to pass the "Equal Rights Amendment," (H.J.Res.37) to make non-discriminatory treatment of women part of our Constitution to ensure that women and men have the same opportunities to succeed.

Promoting Equality in High School and College Sports - Another way Congresswoman Sánchez is ensuring that women receive equal treatment is by opposing Bush Administration polices that cut funding for women's collegiate athletics. Sports develop self-esteem, leadership, and provide many physical and mental health benefits to young women. Girls should have the same access to athletic teams as boys do. That is why Congresswoman Sánchez is a vigorous supporter and defender of Title IX.
