Schumer: This Investment Will Improve Quality of Life, Spur Economic Development in This Rural Community

Today, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer announced that the Village of Dannemora has received a Community Facility Loan and Grant totaling $380,000 from the U.S. Department of Agriculture -- Rural Development. The funding will be used to relocate Village of Dannemora offices, library, courtroom and senior center into a central location, making access to services easier for residents.

"Funding community development projects like those in Dannemora is pivotal for our community and our economy," said Schumer. "The new community building will offer a central location for a wide range of local needs and will also bring infrastructure jobs to the region, spurring local economic development."

Rural Development funds will be used to purchase a new community building. Currently, the Village offices are located in a small old train station which is outdated and have very limited space to maintain good record keeping. The proposed new facility is a closed elementary school owned by the Saranac Lake School District located within the Village of Dannemora. The new building will include a large community room for events and public meetings and will provide spaces for the Village offices, Library, Senior Center, Historian, Nursery School, and a Courtroom. This space is also important to the Village due to the fact that it is a one-story building with handicap accessibility.

The USDA Rural Development funding for the Village of Dannemora, in Clinton County, is comprised of a $371,960 loan and $8,040 grant. The funding is part of the USDA Rural Development annual budget. USDA Rural Development's mission is to increase economic opportunity and to improve the quality of life for rural residents. Rural Development fosters growth in homeownership, finances business development, and supports the creation of necessary community and technology infrastructure.
