This week the House will take a significant step toward securing federal computer networks and our nation's critical infrastructure with consideration of several cybersecurity bills. This action is long overdue. As co-chair of the CSIS Commission on Cybersecurity to the 44th President, I helped draft recommendations for securing our networks and infrastructure. This week's legislation, including my Cybersecurity Enhancement Act, incorporates some key recommendations and represents the baseline of what is needed to avoid loss of life or irreparable damage to our economy and defense.
Last week I passed two amendments onto another cybersecurity bill: one would cut red tape in the implementation of an intrusion detection system that monitors government networks; another would establish a Cyber Security Domestic Preparedness Consortium to train state and local first responders on how to respond to cyber attacks.
