Issue Position

Israel is the United State's closest and most important ally in the Middle East. The bond between our two countries is rooted not only in our shared national interest, but also in our shared values of democracy, rule of law, and basic human rights.

Established as the homeland of the Jewish people in May 1948, just one day before my own birth date, my visits to Israel have been both personal and moving. I have had an opportunity to see firsthand Israel's remarkable leadership in agriculture, medicine, and technology as well as the precariousness of its physical relationship to the political bodies that surround it.

For eight years, in my capacity as Mayor of West Palm Beach, I dealt with the typical issues that American mayors face on a daily basis from keeping the sewers working to fighting street crime.

I cannot fathom the ordeal of an Israeli Mayor who must worry 24 hours a day about rocket fire from its closest neighbors.

As a member of the United States Congress, I will work in a bi-partisan manner to fight any and all attempts to delegitimize Israel in the international arena and to ensure the safety and security of the Jewish state of Israel.
