Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen, Ranking Member of the House Budget Committee, issued the following statement following President Obama's remarks about the budget at today's Associated Press Luncheon:
"America stands at a crossroads, and today the President presented a vision for a future of expanded opportunities and shared prosperity that stands in stark contrast to the Republicans' stale and cramped trickle-down ideology that will take America backwards. The Republican budget abandons the economic recovery, ends the Medicare guarantee, and slashes investments for national priorities -- all to provide a whopping average tax break of almost $400,000 for people making over $1 million a year. It is a path to greater prosperity if you're already wealthy, but it leaves everyone else behind. Democrats are committed to a fair and balanced way forward that puts Americans back to work and bolsters our economic recovery. We must support working families, keep our promises to seniors, and ensure that future generations have the tools to succeed and keep our country competitive."
