Murphy Statement on Ryan Budget 2.0

Statement

Date: April 5, 2012
Location: Washington, DC

In response to House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan's budget proposal, Congressman Chris Murphy released the following statement:

Here we go again. Last year, when Paul Ryan first proposed a plan to end the Medicare guarantee, Americans responded loudly and clearly, and we fought back to save it.

Instead of protecting our seniors from devastating cost increases, this plan again shifts substantial costs to seniors who rely on Medicare, turning it into a voucher program.

This budget also provides another round of tax giveaways for the wealthiest Americans at the expense of middle class taxpayers. So while seniors and middle class families would pay more, millionaires, billionaires, oil companies, and corporations that ship American jobs overseas would pay less. That's just outrageous.

Our growing federal deficit is a rising threat to both our economic recovery and our national security, but this simply reduces the debt on the backs of seniors and the middle class. We need a balanced approach that requires everybody to pay their fair share, and we need it now.
