Congresswoman Laura Richardson Announces $1 Million Grant to the Los Angeles County Salvation Army

Today, Congresswoman Laura Richardson announced that The Salvation Army in Los Angeles County has been awarded a Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS (HOPWA) permanent supportive housing renewal grant of $1,062,519 from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

The grant will be used to continue their "Allegria Program" that provides 44 units of facility based permanent and transitional housing for homeless and at-risk of homelessness families and persons living with HIV/AIDS.

"This grant will allow The Salvation Army to continue its efforts in educating our community regarding the risks of HIV, and helping those affected by this terrible disease," said Congresswoman Richardson.

A combination of supportive services provided by mainstream community resources compliment the provision of housing support through access to a care management system that integrates existing case management, on-site case monitoring, crisis intervention, medical care, licensed child care, tutorial service, and employment referral.
