Hochul Helps Lead Effort Pressing President To End China's Unfair Trade Policies

Congresswoman Kathy Hochul today helped lead an effort calling on President Obama to protect American jobs and use all possible measures to counter China's predatory trade practices. Hochul, one of seven original signatories in the House, was joined by 187 Representatives and Senators in writing a bipartisan letter to the President urging the end of practices hurting the American automotive parts industry.

"China's engagement in unfair trade policies is severely damaging our nation's automotive parts industry and specifically hurting businesses in Western New York, like Jiffy-tite Company, Curtis Screw Company, and Power Drives Incorporated," said Congresswoman Hochul. "These local businesses need our help, which is why the President must develop a strategy to level the playing field for American manufacturers, and secure middle-class jobs here at home."

Currently, the Chinese government unfairly subsidizes its auto parts industry, blocks U.S. exports into China, and limits the export of key raw materials. Congresswoman Hochul and the 187 Members of Congress are now pressing the Administration to fully utilize the recently-established Interagency Trade Enforcement Center to stand up for American jobs and businesses. In January, the Economic Policy Institute concluded nearly 1.6 million U.S. jobs are at risk if unfair Chinese policies are not ended.
