Letter to Secretary Panetta on C-130s

Statement

Date: March 29, 2012

By Senator Cornyn

Last week I sent a letter signed by the entire Texas Congressional delegation to Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta opposing the Air Force's proposal to move eight C-130 aircraft from Joint Reserve Base Fort Worth to Montana. These aircraft are an important asset to Texas. In the past, they've saved the lives of Texans along the Gulf Coast who have foundthemselves in harm's way.

Back in February the Texas delegation sent a similar letter to Secretary of the Air Force Michael Donley. Unfortunately, the Air Force neither responded nor provided any additional insight behind the strategy for this move. With that in mind, we're now taking the case to the top of the Pentagon in hopes that Secretary Panetta will address our concerns. I'll be sure to keep you updated as the situation unfolds.
