Rokita Statement Regarding FY 2013 Budget: "The Path to Prosperity"

Statement

Representative Todd Rokita released the following statement upon the House Budget Committee's release of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2013 Budget: "The Path to Prosperity."

"The House Budget Committee has prepared a serious budget for serious times and, unlike the President's budget, it both admits we have serious problems and offers common sense solutions to solve them.

As Chairman Ryan mentioned in today's press conference, the FY 2013 Path to Prosperity also contains elements of the State Health Flexibility Act, H.R. 4160. H.R. 4160, the bill I coauthored with Reps. Jim Jordan (OH), Tim Huelskamp (KS), and Paul Broun (GA), models Medicaid reform on the successful welfare reforms of the late 90's by returning control of Medicaid to the states. By combining the administration of Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program, a major component of H.R. 4160, the Path to Prosperity FY 2013 will save taxpayers over $800 billion in Medicaid spending, while improving service and access to those who need it most. The Path to Prosperity FY 2013 marks the first victory in achieving these common sense Medicaid reforms.

This budget will ultimately drive the adult conversation about our debt crisis that this nation must have. More importantly it offers our nation a true path toward a brighter future by offering credible plans to reduce the size, scope, and cost of the federal government.

Representative Todd Rokita is a member of the House Budget Committee and represents Indiana's 4th Congressional District.
