STOCK Act Sold Short

Statement

In his State of the Union Address, President Obama said, "Send me a bill that bans insider trading by members of Congress; I will sign it tomorrow." This week, the Senate passed the STOCK Act, which will now go to the President's desk. Unfortunately, the version of the bill being sent to President Obama had two of the most important provisions taken out at the last minute by the House Republican leadership: the public corruption provision and the political intelligence provision. I also met with the Chairman of the House Judiciary Committee to ask that he put the "honest services' provision back into the bill, which unfortunately was not restored
